I need agency and opposition to grow.

Elder Dale G. Renlund taught, “Our Heavenly Father’s goal in parenting is not to have His children do what is right; it is to have His children choose to do what is right and ultimately become like Him” (“Choose You This Day,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2018, 104). Why is it so important in Heavenly Father’s plan that we choose to do what is right?

As you read Moses 4:1–4, look for what Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ did to protect your right to choose—your agency. How can you access their protecting power? For ideas, consider studying the section “Make inspired choices” in For the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices (4–5).

Consider also reading what Lehi taught about agency in 2 Nephi 2:11–20, 25–30. Why is opposition necessary for agency? How can you show your appreciation to Jesus Christ for making you “free to choose”? (2 Nephi 2:27).

First, place these pictures on the chalkboard in a mixed-up order.

Have your students read the verses in Moses 4:1–4. Encourage the youth to match up the pictures to the verses and put them in order. Be sure to teach the doctrine as the youth are doing this, and ask good questions. It might look something like this when completed:

These are free prints. Hope you enjoy.

The rest of the lesson is in my store, at the top and the bottom of the page.

Then you are playing a game called "Truth or Who?" It is a mix of two games, "Truth or Lie" and "Who said it?"

Set up your chalkboard like this:

I have created 16 President Oaks cards, 16 Scripture or other doctrine cards, 8 Strength of the youth cards, and 23 Lie cards...I like to mess with the truth(: You don't have to add them all.

Here is a sample of some of the Scripture Doctrine cards:

Notice how the sides of the cards tell the reference and have questions?

It would be advisable to print two: one on cardstock (to cut out), and another on printing paper (to follow along and ask questions).

I am also going to give you a sample of the lies, so you know I'm not trying to lead everyone to sin and deceit(:

Place these cards in a bag. During class, pass the bag around so that everyone may draw out a card. Give them time to read, identify who said it (if it's true), answer the questions that you have for them, and place it in one of the categories.

It will look similar to this when you are done:
