Come Follow Me, Youth lesson, Sunday School Sept 1-7, 2 Free Prints

The temple is the house of the Lord.

After being chastised for not building a house of the Lord in Kirtland, Church leaders chose a site in a wheat field where they would build. Hyrum Smith, the Prophet’s brother, immediately ran to get a scythe to begin clearing the field. “We are preparing to build a house for the Lord,” he said, “and I am determined to be the first at the work” (in Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith [2007], 271, 273). Why do you think Hyrum was so eager to build the temple? Ponder this as you read Doctrine and Covenants 95:8, 11–17; 97:10–17.

In our day, the Lord “is accelerating the pace at which we are building temples” (Russell M. Nelson, “Focus on the Temple,” Liahona, Nov. 2022, 121). If someone asked you why the Church of Jesus Christ builds so many temples, what would you say? Look for possible answers in:

You might compare the Saints’ efforts to build the Kirtland Temple to your efforts to prepare for meaningful experiences with the Lord in the temple. How can you show the same sense of urgency that Hyrum Smith felt toward the Lord’s holy house? For example, what could you do that would be like clearing the field, as Hyrum did? What sacrifices do you feel the Lord wants you to make? (see Doctrine and Covenants 97:12).

I'm giving you 2 Free Prints this week.

Here is the first one:

You will need this if you purchase my game at the bottom of the page.

Here is the Second one. You can use these if you want to create your own game. Or you can use them in the game I created, Chutes and Ladders.

This is a free print.

Here is how it goes:

Here is a sample of the first page:

If you purchase my game, it will be assembled on the board like this, 6 pages total:

I've included additional slides and ladders. Notice how the top ones have shadows? That is because you get to choose where you want them to go. There is one that was on the split of the paper you need to add a ladder to, it is this one:

The game starts with everyone drawing a dice card, like this (out of a bowl or a bag): This is available in my store at the bottom of the page.

ree

The first group of 6 students will each draw a number from the bowl and keep it until everyone in that group has drawn.

  • If your class has more than six students, the first group will return their numbers to the bowl after everyone has finished drawing.

  • The second group of students will then take their turn to draw numbers.

  • If a student in the second group draws the same number as someone from the first group, they become teammates.

  • This process ensures that every student gets included and no one is left out.

After the teams are formed, they can select a temple to represent their team and place it on the board.

One person can draw a number for their team; they don't put it back in the bowl until every person has drawn their number. That number tells them where to go on the board; it will look something like this:

You might be wondering why you don't just roll a dice, this is why. It is set up (at least in the beginning) for everyone to have a scripture to share and a question to answer. They can climb after they answer their questions. They can be all over the board with the different climbing and sliding. I hope you have fun. Sometimes there is a second question for those who have slid down to do a repeat. But if your youth are anything like mine, they didn't listen to their peers, and the review will be good for them.

Here it is completed:

I've also included a key that gives you the answers.

You probably won't be able to get to the end. If you do, there is a movie to watch. Close with your testimony and personal experience of the temple.

Hope you enjoy(:

If you don't want to just give a piece of gum, you could do an entire packet like this:
