Come Follow Me, LDS youth lesson, June 16-22, 2 Free Prints, Young Men, Young Woman

“Forgive one another.”

Consider the following as you study Doctrine and Covenants 64:1–11:

  • Think about a time when the Lord forgave you. How did you feel?

  • Is there someone you need to forgive? Why can forgiving others be so difficult? What helps you overcome these difficulties?

  • What truths about forgiveness in Doctrine and Covenants 64:1–11 seem important to you? Why do you think the Lord commands us “to forgive all”? (verse 10).

You can discuss these scriptures while completing this scripture match-up.

Start with numbering your board 1-11.

Hand these cards out and have the students read the scriptures Doctrine and Covenants 64:1–11, and try to figure out which verse goes with which picture.

This is a Free Print.

It will look like this when they are done.

If they don't get it exactly, that's ok, it's more important that you discuss the scriptures, and don't forget these great questions:

Consider the following as you study Doctrine and Covenants 64:1–11:

  • Think about a time when the Lord forgave you. How did you feel?

  • Is there someone you need to forgive? Why can forgiving others be so difficult? What helps you overcome these difficulties?

  • What truths about forgiveness in Doctrine and Covenants 64:1–11 seem important to you? Why do you think the Lord commands us “to forgive all”? (verse 10).

Next, you will divide the class into three groups.

You can hand them pages like this:

(This is in my store)

Hand your students scissors and let them cut out the pieces after discussing their assigned talk. The first group has the first corner, which they can place on the board as they share something they learned about forgiveness. Inform your students that each time they wish to add a new piece, they must first share one thing they have learned about forgiveness. It doesn’t have to be big—just something small and meaningful!

The second group will share from “Beauty for Ashes: The Healing Path of Forgiveness.”

The third group will share from  “Forgiveness,” Gospel Library.

After the groups have had their turns (three pieces on the board), they can go out of order within their groups. Just remind them that they must share something they learned about forgiveness before placing a piece.

It will look like this when they are done:

Testify that because of the atonement, something beautiful can come out of something terrible if we forgive and trust in God.

You can also share this testimony from Elder Holland:

Here it is in Black and white:

If you struggle to forgive, consider studying Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s message “The Ministry of Reconciliation” (Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2018, 77–79) or Kristin M. Yee’s message “Beauty for Ashes: The Healing Path of Forgiveness” (Liahona, Nov. 2022, 36–38). What do you learn about how Christ can help you forgive?

Family relationships can provide many opportunities to forgive. Think about your family members. Whom do you need to forgive? How are we “afflicted” (verse 8) when we don’t forgive each other? How would forgiveness affect your family relationships?

See also Topics and Questions, “Forgiveness,” Gospel Library; “Forgiveness: My Burden Was Made Light” (video), Gospel Library.

This is already included in the lesson bundle, but you can purchase it separately below.
