Esther

The Lord puts me in situations where I can bless others.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf taught that each of us “stands at a unique place and has an important task that only [we] can perform. … The Lord gave you your responsibilities for a reason. There may be people and hearts only you can reach and touch. Perhaps no one else could do it in quite the same way” (“Lift Where You Stand,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2008, 56).

As you read the story of Esther, ponder how this statement applies to her. Look for ways the Lord made it possible for her to save the Jews (see, for example, Esther 2:21–23; 3:10–14; 4:14–16). Then ponder how He has given you opportunities to bless others. What are some circumstances or relationships that He has guided you to “for such a time as this”? (Esther 4:14). If you have a patriarchal blessing, consider reading it to learn more about the work the Lord has for you to do. What can you do to accomplish this work?

Invite everyone to stand by the place where they think they have the greatest opportunity to bless others. Tell them to think about their patriarchal blessing if they have one.

Ask:

Why did you choose that spot?

Who needs you there?

Then read this quote:

I love how well President Uchtdorf's talk applies to this lesson, “Lift Where You Stand.”

I think it would be fun to evaluate how everyone in this story "Lifted where they stood". Even Haman stood for something very strongly, but he didn't lift others. I think we need to let the youth discover that for themselves. With these character reviews:

If you have more than 4 students, have them work together in groups.

Have each group pick a card. There is a set of scriptures for them to look up. BUT this does NOT cover ALL the scriptures about that person. I figured your youth don't want to read 30+ verses. Study it yourself so you (the teacher) can summarize what isn't covered. I've included a timeline with your purchase that will help.

Give them a couple of minutes to complete these cards. If the youth freak out over reading 12-17 verses, tell them they are very, very short verses(:

Draw a simple scale on the board like this:

Pass out the Location pins and have a discussion about this.

Your board may look like this after:

I've included notes and insights that will help with this; I can't record everything on this small board.

Then tell them:

If you had a location pin with your name and picture on it, where would you stand? Silently think about this, and how you can do better at lifting others.
